The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP)
administered through the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON)
is seeking to fill the position of Education Coordinator for the Estuary
Program. The person in this position will be domiciled at the BTNEP
office on the Nicholls State University campus in Thibodaux and will be
responsible for coordinating the implementation of the BTNEP education
action plans and related activities of the BTNEP. (For more information on

The BTNEP is seeking an energetic, self-motivated person to fill
this position. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. A high degree of
awareness and knowledge related to coastal habitat loss, living resources,
and water quality issues that affect the Barataria-Terrebonne National
Estuary will weigh heavily in an applicant's favor as will classroom
teaching experience. To be effective, this individual will require a
unique blend of talents because s/he is expected to serve as a central
coordinator for educational issues as they pertain to the people of the
Barataria-Terrebonne system.
The Education Coordinator serves under the supervision of the
Program Director and is the "bridge" between BTNEP products and the K-12
and university education sectors. The Education Coordinator modifies or
reformats and presents the technical information produced by the BTNEP for
use by students and educators in the classroom. The Education Coordinator
is expected to be knowledgeable on a broad range of scientific matters
related to habitat restoration, living resources, and water quality
issues, and be able to condense that knowledge into a form that is easily
understood by teachers and their students. The Education Coordinator must
also be familiar with the programs and procedures of the Louisiana
educational system and state educational standards for all subject areas,
and with regional school systems including K-12 and university education
in the fifteen- parish program area.
The Education Coordinator also works with other educational and
outreach programs in Louisiana, e.g., Louisiana Sea Grant College Program,
Louisiana Department of Education, LUMCON, and around the country,
including the other National Estuary Programs, the U.S. EPA, NOAA, USGS,
and state and national education organizations. The Education Coordinator
is also involved in a number of public outreach activities and projects
and grants. The Education Coordinator will also work with other BTNEP
outreach staff, collaborating as a team on the development of projects.
Salary Range is dependent upon qualifications and level of
experience.
