Breaux Act Newsflash - Limited space is still available for the 2010 State
of the Coast Conference
OIL SPILL ADDITIONS TO THE SOC AGENDA
The Louisiana coast is now faced with uncertain changes and impacts from
the BP Oil Spill. Despite the current uncertainties surrounding the
extent, duration and impact of the BP Oil Spill, we do know that those
working to protect and restore the coast and its communities will be
facing new challenges in the future. The Steering Committee feels it is
imperative to address these impacts to the best of our ability and discuss
possible solutions at the State of the Coast conference in June. For this
reason, we are now adding the following to the SOC agenda.
1. An Oil Spill Session is being developed and added to the agenda. A
revised agenda will be distributed as soon as possible.
2. Special Call for Posters - The SOC is now calling for additional
posters pertaining specifically to the oil spill. Poster topics, such as
chemistry of oil or dispersants, modeling, monitoring, remediation
solutions, fisheries and wildlife impacts, wetland impacts, and challenges
to protection and restoration, are being sought both for the current spill
or research on past oil spills. Unfortunately, we are only able to accept
25 posters, so please submit your topic and authors to Natalie Snider at
nsnider@crcl.org as soon as possible.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT HOURS
The State of the Coast Conference and the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE) have partnered together to provide Professional
Development Hours for the conference. Professional Development Hours
(PDH) will be provided for all registered professional engineers.
Attendees will receive 0.5 PDH per session. Speakers will receive 1 PDH
for their presentation. As a value-added service, attendees will receive
a PDH Log form in their registration packets to assist in tracking their
acquired PDHs. A copy of the login form will be posted online prior to
the conference.
