Volunteers Needed for Invasive Tree Removal Project in New Orleans East

CRCL and Citgo are partnering up to restore the coast!

Invasive Tree removal project at Audubon Louisiana Nature Center

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL), Citgo Petroleum Corporation, and the Audubon Nature Institute are hosting an event to commemorate the 9th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The Audubon Louisiana Nature Center was inundated by the flood waters from the hurricane and suffered considerable damage which devastated its interpretive center, exhibits, and natural forest. We are working hard to restore this cherished nature and education resource for New Orleans children and families, but we can't do it without dedicated volunteers such as yourself!

We will be restoring the ecosystem by removing the invasive Chinese Tallow. This allows the native trees, such as cypress, tupelo, and red maple, to re-establish themselves by removing the competition and opening up the canopy.

Project Details:

When: Friday, August 29, 2014
8:00 am to no later than 3:00 pm

Where: Audubon Louisiana Nature Center

*Note: CITGO employees & SWLA Volunteers - there is a shuttle bus arranged for you from the Lake Charles area to New Orleans. Stay tuned for more details!
