BTNEP ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR

THIBODAUX, LA - Susan Testroet-Bergeron will join the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) as the new director on January 5, 2015. Susan has years of experience in the wetlands community working for the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) program and the BTNEP in the roles of education specialist, communications, media, and outreach coordinator. Additionally, she has worked in the recycling environmental community, as a classroom teacher, and as an educational consultant. "Susan will be a wonderful addition to the BTNEP team and an effective leader of the Estuary Program. Susan has an extraordinary talent in her ability to work with multiple groups--government officials, stakeholders, legislative delegates, educators, the media, industry representatives, and audiences of all types. She will be a positive force in the continued importance of BTNEP and its citizens in the future of an exceptional coastal ecosystem," said Dr. Nancy Rabalais Executive Director of the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON).

Established in 1991, the mission of the BTNEP is the preservation and restoration of the Barataria-Terrebonne estuarine system, the 4.2 million acre region between the Atchafalaya and Mississippi Rivers. The BTNEP strives to rebuild and protect the estuary for future generations through the implementation of a science-based, consensus-driven plan that utilizes partnerships focused on the estuary's rich cultural, economic, and natural resources.

The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program is one of the 28 congressionally mandated National Estuary Programs created under the Clean Water Act to identify, restore and protect nationally significant estuaries of the United States.

According to Al Levron, BTNEP Management Conference Chairman, "Susan is a great fit for the Program." Under Susan's leadership, BTNEP looks forward to continued growth in working with the community to protect and preserve Louisiana's estuaries.
