Vermilion River Cleanup

The Cleaner Vermilion Waterways Committee will be sponsoring a cleanup day on October 24, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The clean up on this day is a collective effort of many organizations and agencies including, Abbeville Garden Club, Keep Abbeville Beautiful, the City of Abbeville, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff and Police Jury, Abbeville Rotary Club, Vermilion Soil & Water Conservation District, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry are supporting this event. in an effort to remove as much debris and litter as possible all in one day. The local group is committed to keeping the Vermilion clean so we can protect and restore it for us – and future generations. The 70 mile long Vermilion River originates at Bayou Fusielier which is fed by Bayou Teche, winds its way through Lafayette Parish and drains into the Vermilion Bay below Vermilion Parish. Volunteers are needed to scour the river from Milton near the parish line, all the way to Intracoastal City. Not only do we need volunteers but we are in need of boats. Volunteers are asked to contact Mitzi Dohrman at 337-893-5664 ext. 3 as soon as possible, so Mrs. Dohrman can work with the committee in assigning cleanup volunteers to designated pickup locations.
To volunteer, please print and fill out the attached pdf, Volunteer Form.
