Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana – Group volunteer opportunities now available!

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) needs you! Over the past year and a half, CRCL’s Oyster Shell Recycling program has collected nearly 1,600 tons of shell from New Orleans area restaurants. Now, it’s time to get those shells ready to go back into the water. We’re looking for volunteers to bag oyster shell so that it can be used to create an artificial oyster reef in Louisiana’s Biloxi Marsh. Such reefs help restore our coast by building and protecting the shoreline behind them. We’re inviting local coastal restoration groups and organizations to be a part of this project by allowing them to register for private group volunteer events.

Volunteer events take place in Buras, La., approximately 75 minutes from New Orleans. Event timing can be tailored to a group’s needs, but usually involves a 9am – 1pm workday, which includes breaks, refreshments, and gifts for volunteers. We can schedule events on either weekdays or weekends. Group size should be between 15 and 45 people per event. The work is labor-intensive, so participants must be 18 and over. We prioritize volunteer safety to ensure that all enjoy a fun and safe day!
