North Lake Mechant Landbridge Restoration

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project is located in Terrebonne Parish adjacent to and just north of the northern shore of Lake Mechant.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project would help to maintain and restore the landbridge (Lake Mechant north shoreline and the Small Bayou LaPointe ridge) that provides a hydrologic barrier between brackish and low-salinity habitats. Project features include the creation of 534 acres of marsh, the planting of smooth cordgrass along 44,307 linear feet of shoreline, the construction of one armored earthen plug, three sheetpile plugs, and a rip-rap plug where the Little Deuce channel cuts through the Small Bayou LaPointe ridge. Additionally, an existing fixed-crest weir along Bayou Raccourci will be repaired.

Construction of this project has been completed. This project is now in the Operation and Maintenance Phase.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $37,068,684 , which includes $36,599,690 for construction first costs, and $137,551 and $331,443 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
