Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

    Title:
Edited LIDAR Elevation Data, NE quadrant of Steep Gully quadrangle, Louisiana, UTM 15 NAD83, Louisiana Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Project - Phase 2 of Louisiana LIDAR Data Development: Rapides Parish, Louisiana under the Watershed Concepts contract number EMT-2002-CO-0048, Task Order 013. [scp_3009202ne]
    Abstract:
This is a point dataset of elevations over the NE quadrant of the Steep Gully quadrangle, Louisiana. The data were derived from LIDAR measurements performed in 2002. The data are 'edited' to the extent that they have been largely reduced to a 'bare ground' representation; most above ground level features and objects such as buildings and trees have been removed from these data.

These data were produced for the Louisiana Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Project - Phase 2 of Louisisana LIDAR Data Development: Rapides Parish, Louisiana under the Watershed Concepts contract number EMT-2002-CO-0048, Task Order 013.

The data are provided as a comma delimited xyz file (scp_3009202ne.csv) in ASCII format.

Why was the data set created?

These data are used for the production of Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) digital elevation models or whenever a direct representation of the bare-earth LIDAR point data is needed.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

    RAW_3009202ne (source 1 of 2)
Concepts, Watershed, 2003, Raw LIDAR Elevation Data, NE quadrant of Steep Gully quadrangle, Louisiana, UTM 15 NAD83, Louisiana Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Project - Phase 2 of Louisiana LIDAR Data Development: Rapides Parish, Louisiana under the Watershed Concepts contract number EMT-2002-CO-0048, Task Order 013. [raw_3009202ne].

    Type_of_Source_Media: computer file
Source_Contribution: Raw LIDAR data from which this data set was derived

    BHY_3009202ne (source 2 of 2)
Concepts, Watershed, 2003, Hydrography Breakline Data, NE quadrant of Steep Gully quadrangle, Louisiana, UTM 15 NAD83, Louisiana Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Project - Phase 2 of Louisiana LIDAR Data Development: Rapides Parish, Louisiana under the Watershed Concepts contract number EMT-2002-CO-0048, Task Order 013. Type_of_Source_Media: computer file
    Source_Contribution:
Used for elimination or adjustment of LIDAR points contained within or proximal to the breakline features.

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: 2003 (process 1 of 3)
RAW_3009202ne data was edited using ELVIS software to eliminate above-ground features such as buildings, trees and overpasses.

    Date: 2003 (process 2 of 3)
The BHY_3009202ne data was applied to the data to remove points that were within water bodies of constant or nearly constant elevation and low points that were proximal to the hydrography breakline.

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

The data set includes only those data remaining for a 'bare earth' representation and that have not been otherwise eliminated as part of edit processing. These data consist of approximately 70% of the data originally present in the raw data set, raw_3009202ne.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

Inspection of these data reveals that some residual points from trees (especially on slopes) are present in the data.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?

Are there legal restrictions on access or use of the data?

Access_Constraints: none
