<abstract>
This is a dataset of select hydrography breaklines over the SW quadrant
of the Lake Charles Southeast quadrangle, Louisiana. The breaklines represent
the water edge for wide channel rivers and canals, and the shoreline of lakes.

These data were produced for the Louisiana Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Project - Phase 2 of Louisiana LIDAR Data Development: Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana
under the Watershed Concepts contract number EMT-2002-CO-0048, Task Order 012.

BSH breaklines define drainage features whose distance from channel bank to channel bank
are less than 50 feet (15 meters).

The data are provided in ArcInfo 'generate' format suitable for input into a TIN model.
</abstract>
<purpose>
These data improve the representation of terrain in an elevation model where point data
is insufficient to provide a good representation, where flow channels are blocked from
(LIDAR) view by vegetation, and where minor variations in sensed surface elevation would otherwise
give rise to contours in and across large water bodies.
</purpose>

<logic>
The breaklines were constructed under the model representation that water courses
vary linearly in elevation or are constant in elevation between critical points established
in the breakline model. These breaklines were determined from LIDAR and orthophoto data
of specific dates and that model the land/water contributions and extents on those dates.
</logic>
<complete>
This data set models rivers and canals that consistently meet or exceed 25 meters in
width and lakes or ponds that are 50 or more meters in length along the long axis.

TerraModeler software was used to display the reference GeoTIFF orthophotos and the
ELVIS edited raw_3009364sw LIDAR point data and to construct breaklines for the water
edge of wide channel rivers and canals, and the shoreline of lakes. Breakline
elevations were linearly ramped between identified critical elevation points along
flowing water courses or were set at a fixed level for lakes based on lowest observed
shoreline elevation or water return elevation. The breakline data from individual
3.75' tiles are edgematched into regional breaklines, clipped to an exact 3.75 minute
tile then converted to a format suitable for 'generate' input in an ArcInfo CREATETIN process.
