PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 31-Mar-2025
Myrtle Grove Siphon DEAUTHORIZED
PROJECT LOCATION:
The project is located near the community of Myrtle Grove on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, LA.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project area covers nearly 16,000 acres. Construction of the Mississippi River levee has effectively stopped annual flooding that, in the past, nourished surrounding wetlands with sediments, nutrients and freshwater. These flood waters counteracted subsidence, saltwater intrusion and marsh loss. The siphon will partially reestablish seasonal flooding of the Mississippi River by discharging an estimated 2,100 cubic feet of water per second.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 01-Jan-1990 )
The 5th Priority List authorized funding in the amount of $4,500,000 for the FY 96 Phase 1 of this project. Priority List 6 authorized funding in the amount of $6,000,000 for FY 97. Priority List 8 is authorized to fund the remaining $5,000,000. Total project cost is estimated to be $15,525,950. NOAA and LADNR are closing out the cooperative agreement and returning remaining project funds to the CWPPRA program. Project will remain active as authorized.
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $481,803 , which includes $475,597 for construction first costs, and $6,206 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
