COASTAL WETLANDS PLANNING, PROTECTION AND RESTORATION ACT

PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 25-Apr-2024

Barataria Bay Waterway East Side Shoreline Protection

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project is located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, on the east bank of the Dupre Cut portion of the Barataria Bay Waterway, north of the Lafitte Gas and Oil Field and south of the subsided land reclamation effort known as "the Pen".

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The banks of the BBWW have deteriorated considerably due to erosion from boat wakes. Large breaches in the banks have exposed the adjacent marsh to increased water exchange, tidal energy, and saltwater intrusion. The objective of this project is to rebuild the banks of the BBWW to protect the adjacent marsh from excessive tidal action and saltwater intrusion. The project consists of 17,600 (3.3 miles) of levee constructed with dredged material from the BBWW; and 17,600 (3.3 miles) of rock armor.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 06-Dec-2002 )

This project was combined with the Naomi Outfall Management project for planning and design; construction was separate. Project construction complete. O&M plan signed October 2, 2002.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $5,224,477 , which includes $3,917,187 for construction first costs, and $79,290 and $1,228,000 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
