Sabine National Wildlife Refuge Erosion Protection COMPLETE
PROJECT LOCATION:
The project is located on the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge along the east shoreline of the Burton-Sutton Canal and protecting the western levee of the Pool 3 impoundment in Cameron Parish, LA.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project will protect 13,000 acres of fresh marsh from deterioration associated with the anticipated failure of the existing west levee. The original design was to reconstruct 5.5 miles of eroded levee. The project was redesigned to include 1,000 feet of levee reconstruction and 5.5 miles of rock armor. Vegetative plantings were used to reduce future erosion from boat traffic.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 20-May-2016 )
The project was closed March 2015. No maintenance has been needed within the project's 20-year life and no future maintenance will be performed with CWPPRA funds. The end of the project's 20-year CWPPRA life was March 2015. The CWPPRA Task Force on in May 2014, upon the recommendation of project sponsors, approved project close out upon reaching its 20-year life.
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $1,309,987 , which includes $1,210,753 for construction first costs, and $82,944 and $16,290 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
