COASTAL WETLANDS PLANNING, PROTECTION AND RESTORATION ACT

PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 21-Nov-2024

Clear Marais Bank Protection COMPLETE

PROJECT LOCATION:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The north bank of the GIWW is failing in this area, threatening encroachment on one of the few remaining tracts of freshwater wetlands within the Calcasieu/Sabine Basin. Stabilizing six miles of channel bank with rock bank armoring or a rock armored breakwater will provide a barrier against the saline tidal circulation and erosive boat wake present in the GIWW, thus, protecting this highly productive area. Vegetative plantings may be used to enhance the bank protection and promote sediment trapping.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 01-Jan-1990 )

The original construction estimate was low, based on the proposed plan in that the rock quantity estimate was less than half of the quantity needed (based on the original design), and the estimate did not include a floatation channel needed for construction. This accounts for most of the cost increase shown. The current estimate is based on the original rock dike design and costs about $89/foot. Complete.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $3,046,459 , which includes $2,792,476 for construction first costs, and $114,474 and $139,509 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
