COASTAL WETLANDS PLANNING, PROTECTION AND RESTORATION ACT

PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 21-Nov-2024

No Name Bayou Marsh Creation & Nourishment

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project area is located south of Calcasieu Lake in Cameron Parish, approximately two miles north of Cameron, LA. The project is within the Cameron-Creole Watershed Management Area which uses a levee and five large concrete water control structures to manage the unit and protect approximately 64,000 acres from saltwater intrusion.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Marshes in the southwest portion of the Cameron Creole Watershed have converted to open water due to subsidence and saltwater intrusion from the Calcasieu Ship Channel. In addition, hurricanes previously breached the levee, scouring the marsh and increasing salinities. This project would create and nourish approximately 466 acres of open water and saline marsh using sediment mined from Calcasieu Lake.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 10-Jul-2023 )

Approved for Phase 2 Construction in January 2022

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $29,747,345 , which includes $28,719,817 for construction first costs, and $163,381 and $864,147 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
