Freshwater Bayou Wetland Protection
PROJECT LOCATION:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project features include the installation of 10,000 linear feet of rock breakwater (rip-rap) along the west shoreline of Freshwater Bayou Canal, where needed, to protect this shoreline from further erosion; and the installation of gated water control structures on the Acadiana Marina Canal to reduce ponding in the area known as the Freshwater Bayou Wetlands.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 22-Mar-2002 )
The project was expedited in order to allow the use of stone removed from the Wax Lake Outlet Weir at a substantial cost savings. Construction is included as an option in the Corps of Engineers contract for the Wax Lake Outlet Weir removal. Option was exercised on September 2, 1994. Project construction is complete. Maintenance contract underway to repair rock dike.
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $6,108,240 , which includes $1,329,340 for construction first costs, and $896,043 and $3,882,857 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
