PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 11-Jun-2026
Flexible Dustpan Demo at Head of Passes Demo COMPLETE
PROJECT LOCATION:
The marsh creation sites for this project are located in the Mississippi River Delta in Plaquemines Parish, LA.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Areas in this region that stand to benefit are the Delta National Wildlife Refuge, Pass a Loutre Wildlife Management Area, and the West Bay designated maintenance dredge materials placement areas. Historically, the areas where the marsh creation areas are located have supported significant amounts of submerged aquatic vegetation and marsh grasses. At present, the areas have become open areas and are nearly devoid of vegetation due to the effects of deterioration. Deterioration of these marshes has been accelerated by several major factors. Natural deterioration processes include subsidence and erosion in this region. Disturbance of natural alluvial processes has occurred through navigation waterways improvements for navigation on the Mississippi River. In addition, construction of access canals for oil and gas exploration has increased tidal exchange into the Delta interior, which has accelerated natural erosional processes.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: )
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $1,889,631 , which includes $1,857,956 for construction first costs, and $31,674 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
