COASTAL WETLANDS PLANNING, PROTECTION AND RESTORATION ACT

PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 21-Nov-2024

Hopedale Hydro Restoration

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project is located in St. Bernard Parish, LA.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project involves re-furbishment and construction of several water control structures designed to prevent tidal surges and reduce wetland deterioration within the project site. Water control structures installed in the 1950's have collapsed and deteriorated to the point that the control structures are having an adverse effect on wetlands in the project area. Wind-driven tide and rainwater pond on the marsh surface as a result of reduced drainage capacity at this outlet, reducing plant health and accelerating marsh loss. Replacement of this structure would allow more rapid drainage of the area, improve fisheries access to the area, reduce wetland loss rates and protect over 3,000 acres of marsh.
