PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 22-Nov-2024
Bayou Bienvenue Pump Station Diversion DEAUTHORIZED
PROJECT LOCATION:
The 2,700-acre project is located southeast of Yscloskey along the upper reaches of Bayou Bienvenue in St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Construction calls for managing stormwater discharged from three pummping stations. By diverting freshwater into natural marshes and through a system of planted marsh terraces to be created by the project, wetland growth will be promoted, salinity spikes will be reduced and general environmental conditions will be improved.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 22-May-2002 )
Cooperative Agreement awarded in June 1, 2000. Preliminary design analyses indicate that terrace construction significantly more costly than originally estimated due to poor geo-technical condition. The project is estimated to cost between $17 and $20 million to build. At the January 16, 2002 Task Force meeting, DNR and NOAA/NMFS requested initiation of the deauthorization procedure. Deauthorization was approved by the Task Force at the April 16, 2002 meeting.
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $212,153 , which includes $211,310 for construction first costs, and $843 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
