Isles Dernieres Restoration Trinity Island COMPLETE
PROJECT LOCATION:
Trinity Island of the Isles Dernieres, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project objectives are to restore the Trinity Island (dunes and marsh) wetlands of the Isles Dernieres chain, enhance the physical integrity of the island, and protect the lower Terrebonne estuary and associated vegetated wetlands against direct exposure to the Gulf of Mexico, while increasing technical information on the restoration of barrier islands. This phase of the Isles Dernieres' restoration involves partial restoration of Trinity Island. The sediment material source is from Lake Pelto.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 01-Jan-1990 )
Costs increased due to construction bids significantly greater than projected in plans and specifications. Additional funds to cover the increased project construction/dredging cost were approved at the January 16, 1998 Task Force meeting. The 30' hydraulic dredge, the Tom James, mobilized at East Island on about January 27, 1998. Dredging was completed in September 1998. Vegetation plantings was completed June 1999.
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $10,903,522 , which includes $10,617,170 for construction first costs, and $286,352 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
