East Timbalier Island Sediment Restoration, Phase 1 COMPLETE

PROJECT LOCATION:

East Timbalier Island is in Lafourche Parish and is part of an island chain that fronts Terrebonne/Timbalier Bay.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The objective is to strengthen and thus increase the life expectancy of East Timbalier Island beyond its estimated 11 years by placing dredged material along the landward shoreline. The project calls for the mining of 890,000 cubic yards of sediment and placing it in three embayments along the landward shoreline of East Timbalier Island. The project will in essence, double the width of this island.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 26-Jul-2001 )

Construction completed in December 1999. Aerial seeding of the dune platform was achieved in spring 2000, and the installation of sand fencing was completed September 30, 2000. Vegetative dune plantings were completed May 1, 2001.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $3,691,454 , which includes $3,475,241 for construction first costs, and $216,212 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
