Whiskey Island Restoration COMPLETE

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project is located on Whiskey Island, which is a part of the Isles Dernieres chain of barrier islands in Terrebonne Parish.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project objectives are to create and restore beaches and back island marshes, and close breaches on Whiskey Island. The project consists of creating 523 acres of back island marsh, filling in the breach at Coupe Nouvelle (134 acres). Dredged material will be taken from the Lake Pelto area.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 01-Jan-1990 )

At the January 16, 1998 meeting, the Task Force approved additional funds to cover the increased construction cost on lowest bid received. Work was initiated on February 13, 1998. Dredging completed July 1998. Initial vegetation with spartina on bay shore, July 1998. Additional vegetation seeding/planting was carried out in spring 2000.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $7,043,188 , which includes $6,922,219 for construction first costs, and $120,969 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
