PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 02-Dec-2024
Lake Boudreaux Freshwater Introduction INACTIVE
PROJECT LOCATION:
The project is located in Terrebonne Parish approximately 5 miles southwest of Chauvin, LA.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The area is suffering from a lack of freshwater head, which is insufficient to reduce the negative effects of saltwater intrusion. The project objective is to seasonally introduce freshwater from the Houma Navigation Canal, in order to reduce saltwater intrusion and promote vegetative diversity within the project area. Project plans are to: enlarge 6,700 feet of Bayou Pelton to 100 feet wide by 8 feet deep; dredge 3,200 feet of outfall channel to 100 feet wide by 8 feet deep; install a major water control structure in the outfall canal consisting of seven 8-foot-wide by 8-foot deep sluice gates, build a bridge for Louisiana Highway 57 over the outfall canal; construct approximately six small water management structures; and provide flood protection for developed areas extending north of Canebrake Subdivision to the Grand Caillou Elementary School.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 10-Sep-2013 )
Acquisition of new appraisals and associated plats has delayed landrights work. The updated appraisals have been incorporated into the final landrights documents which are being submitted to property owners for execution. Review of the permit application has been put on hold until the permitting agencies conclude how to address the concurrent Parish proposal for a forced drainage project along the east flank of Bayou Grand Caillou (in the project area).
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $4,275,329 , which includes $3,655,703 for construction first costs, and $618,695 and $931 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
