COASTAL WETLANDS PLANNING, PROTECTION AND RESTORATION ACT

PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 21-Oct-2019

Grand Bay Crevasse DEAUTHORIZED

PROJECT LOCATION:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Construction of a rock-lined opening through the rocks at the head of the Jurjevich Canal to establish a pathway for fresh water and sediment into Grand Bay and the adjacent marshes will create, restore and enhance wetlands in the area. Sediment from the Mississippi River will eventually create a delta splay in Grand Bay.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 1-Jan-1990 )

The major landowner has indicated non-support of the project and has withheld ROE because of concern about sedimentation negatively impacting oil and gas interests within the deposition area.

A draft memorandum dated December 5, 1997 was sent to the CWPPRA Technical Committee Chairman requesting the Task Force to deauthorize the project. COE requested deauthorization at the January 16, 1998 Task Force meeting. Project deauthorized July 23, 1998.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $65,747 , which includes $62,437 for construction first costs, and $3,310 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
