PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 6-Dec-2019

Nutria Harvest for Wetland Restoration Demo

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project location is the entire Louisiana coastal zone, but the primary nutria damage area is in the deltaic plain.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project will reduce nutria damage to wetlands by providing increased economic incentives to trappers. The project will attempt to create a market for nutria meat for human consumption, ultimately increasing the price paid to trappers. CWPPRA funds will be used to increase the price paid to trappers for nutria meat brought to participating meat processing plants. Other project components include public information, recipe development and the development of an advertising and marketing strategy focused on increasing public demand for nutria meat for human consumption..
