West Belle Pass Barrier Headland Restoration Project

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project is located in Lafourche Parish about 2 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, LA.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The headland on which this project is situated is experiencing shoreline retreats over 100 feet a year in certain locations. This project helped to reestablish the West Belle headland by rebuilding a large portion of the beach, dune, and back barrier marsh that once existed. Approximately 10,000 feet, amounting to 183 acres, of beach and dune was rebuilt using 2.8 million cubic yards of dredged sand, and 227 acres of marsh habitat was rebuilt using 1.4 million cubic yards of dredged material.

Readjusted description and changed construction completion date based on plantings date to fit with O&M plan.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $42,043,858 , which includes $39,422,092 for construction first costs, and $134,541 and $2,487,225 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
